The Art of Choosing the Perfect Shade of Blue

Celebrating 25 Years of Fleur of England- The thread of colour

By Fleur Christacos, Founder and Designer of Fleur of England

For those who have followed my journey over the past twenty five years, you'll know that every Fleur of England collection begins long before the first piece of French lace is cut.

It begins with a feeling.

Sometimes it's a walk through an English garden. Sometimes it's an antique textile, a piece of architecture or the delicate pattern on a faded wallpaper discovered in a historic house. Every collection starts by collecting moments of inspiration before translating them into lingerie that makes women feel exquisitely confident.

For Bea, that journey began with one question.

What does quiet confidence look like?

It wasn't bold. It wasn't loud.

It was the most beautiful shade of blue, not too dark and not to bright, but the most mesmerising shade of Petrol blue.

You can see the inspiration for the colour in my mood board below.

Why This shade?

Choosing the perfect colour is one of the most important decisions I make as a designer. It can take months to find exactly the right tone.

Too bright and it loses its sophistication.

Too dark and the intricate details disappear.

Too green and it no longer feels timeless.

For Bea, I wanted a blue that felt rich, elegant and quietly luxurious. A colour inspired by Britain's heritage homes, aged wallpapers and beautifully restored interiors, where craftsmanship whispers rather than demands attention.

The final shade became the foundation for everything that followed.

From Inspiration to Illustration

Every Fleur of England collection begins on paper.

I spend countless hours sketching silhouettes, refining proportions and exploring embroidery ideas before anything is created in fabric.

For Bea, the inspiration evolved into a bespoke lattice embroidery, carefully designed to complement our exclusive French eyelash lace without overwhelming it. The embroidery mirrors the elegant geometry found within historic interiors while allowing the softness of the lace to remain the hero.

Watching an idea travel from mood board, to hand sketches, to embroidery artwork and finally into beautifully finished garments remains one of my favourite parts of the design process.

It never loses its magic.

Crafted to Last

Every detail within Bea has been carefully considered, from our exclusive French eyelash lace to the delicate 24 carat gold-plated hardware that catches the light with understated elegance.

The all-over bespoke embroidery is crafted in Europe on invisible tulle. I took the inspiration for this design from Regency wallpaper designs discovered at a nation Trust Mansion.

This collection also introduces a new Soft Cup Boudoir Bra with a graceful high apex silhouette, offering slightly more coverage while retaining the romantic femininity that has become synonymous with Fleur of England.

Alongside it, our bestselling Lace Brazilian Brief and balcomny bra and thong returns in Bea's signature petrol blue, reimagining one of our most loved styles in an entirely new mood.

Meet Bea

I often imagine each collection as a woman.

Bea is the sister who moves through the world with quiet confidence.

She is calm, assured and effortlessly elegant.

She doesn't seek attention.

She simply possesses a timeless confidence that comes from knowing exactly who she is.

I think many of us aspire to feel a little more like Bea.

A Collector's Piece

As we celebrate twenty five years of Fleur of England, each collection has become part of our 25 Threads of Luxury series, celebrating the artistry, craftsmanship and stories that have shaped the brand over the last quarter of a century.

To mark the launch of Bea, every order will include an exclusive collectible bookmark, created especially for our anniversary year. Each bookmark celebrates one of the defining threads of Fleur of England, offering a small keepsake that honours the journey behind every collection.

I love the idea that these pieces can be collected over time, just as each collection becomes another chapter in the story of Fleur of England.

Thank you for allowing me to continue sharing these stories with you. After twenty five years, it remains the greatest privilege to create luxury lingerie that celebrates artistry, craftsmanship and confidence in equal measure.
