celebrating the women who make Fleur of England Flourish
This international women’s day we are celebrating our global sisterhood of women who all work towards a shared goal, empowering and uplifting women. We invite you to explore the conversations we had with the women who truly make Fleur of England Flourish.
We kicked off our conversation series with Katya, founder of Dentelle Fine Lingerie and stockist of Fleur of England in California.
What does international women’s month mean to you?
International Woman’s Day is a wonderful day of womanhood, love, flowers and indulgence. Growing up in Russia we often celebrated Women’s Day among family and friends with a festive meal and drinks. Many women received flowers, cards and other gifts on March 8. Many television programs paid tribute to achievements of famous Russian women from the past and the present.
Can you tell us about your personal relationship with lingerie, and what attracted you to create a space dedicated to a women’s sensuality?
My aim is to help women unleash the unexpected power of lingerie to improve women’s relationship with their body and wardrobe. Not only do their clothes look better, but they stand taller, move more freely, and act with greater confidence. Over 6 years of my career I have worked with clients of every age, shape and size, and I’m here to help all women look and feel their best.
The female gaze is a really important element of Fleur of England, Fleur has worked with Louise for over 10 years and together a vision of feminine empowerment has been translated through Louise's stunning photography.
What does International Woman’s Day mean toyou?
As women we wear a lot of hats throughout our day and International Women’s Day is a moment to pause and pat yourself on the shoulder. You may not wear every hat perfectly, but perfect is boring anyway so let’s celebrate all the imperfect moments, here’s to showing up, and supporting each other.
Why is it important to have more women behind the camera?
I shoot a lot of women's wear. I mostly purchase my own clothes, so I shoot women as I would like to be seen myself or be inspired by. It is always enjoyable to be working in female teams, it always feels like such a fun and safe space to be creative in.
Next up is Libby, Libby works with our Digital Team and works externally on projects.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
To me, international women’s day is an amazing opportunity to celebrate how far we've come globally towards gender equality, to remember those women that came before us and fought for our rights, and to recognize what still needs to be done. I always take a moment to celebrate the brilliant women in my life and give my 13-year-old daughter a massive high five!
What does it mean to you to work alongside women within business?
I love working alongside women in business. From my amazing business partner, to my inspirational female clients, I find the passion, tenacity and communication they all bring to business an absolute inspiration!
Pauline is our lace manufacturer in France. Fleur of England has worked with Pauline for over 15 years to create our beautiful luxurious laces. Her business is family run and the traditional techniques have been passed down through generations.
What does International Woman’s Day mean to you?
International Women's Day is a day to remember women around the world for the achievements and contributions that have been made in the past. It’s also a day to honor women who lost their lives or freedom because they fought for stopping discrimination and inequity. International Woman’s Day is the opportunity to link women worldwide and also through generations, raising awareness among the youngest ones that there is still more to achieve and complete.
What does it mean to you to create something for other women?
Who better than a woman understands a woman? Who better than a woman to understand her difficulties, her doubts, her failures, her pains, her struggles, her obstacles, her stress? We need to be strong all together, and to encourage one another, as nobody understands us better than ourselves! Solidarity between us has become a necessity. It enables us to empower each other and to lift us up.
This has been a great time of reflection for us here at Fleur of England and reminds of us of how important it is to be having these conversations and reminding ourselves of how special our network is. We invite you to join the conversation and share your insights into what International Women’s Day means to you…
