How do you know if you need a new bra?
As such an integral part of our wardrobes, it's important to treat your bras to a little TLC every now and again. As well and ensuring you store and wash them correctly, it's also important to check your bras if you've had them for a long time and update them to make sure they are still giving you the right support, comfort and confidence every bra should.
If you don't know the signs to look out for, here are our top 6 signs that it's time to get a new bra!
1. Your straps won't go tight enough - they have lost their elasticity
Have you noticed your straps slipping recently and you tighten them but it makes no difference? This may be because the elastic has gone and your bra is now not giving you the correct support. Elastic can stretch over time due to wear and tear and this means your bra straps are no longer giving you the supportive fit you need.
At Fleur of England, we choose the best quality elastics for our bra straps, which should give you a good few years wear before they need replacing, depending how often you wear you bra and how you care for it.
2. You've moved to the tightest hook on your bra
A new bra should fit comfortably on the loosest hook, if you find yourself starting to hook it onto the tightest hook this may mean that the fabric in the underband has stretched, this can happen over time. This is a sign you should to replace your bra as most of the support comes from the underband, meaning your bra is no longer giving you the beautiful, comfortable fit that you deserve.
3. Your bra has changed shape and lost it's form
If your bra looks like it's changed shape from when you first brought it, it's time for a new one! You might find this more common in padded bras and extra care should be taken when storing these bras to preserve the shape of the molded cups. Look out for wrinkling in the fabric and dents in the cups, this is when you know your bra has changed shape.
4. Your bra is damaged and looks old
You know it's time to say goodbye to your bra if you notice any pulls, tares, fading or stains. The time has come to treat yourself to some new fresh and beautiful bras that can give you all the confidence you need.
5. The underwire is coming out
An underwire poking out is not only painful and very uncomfortable it also means that the bra has lost its shape and therefore it's structure and support. Don't worry it has served you well but now it's time for a new more supportive bra.
6. The hooks are damaged
If you notice a hook missing or falling off your bra won't work anymore, this is definitely a sign that you need a new bra. To avoid this from happening make sure you are taking care of your bra's and hand washing them rather than machine washing. Find out how to care for your bra's here
